DRC-1 FAQs

Q, Will the DRC-1 operate with a Simoco PRF1060 base station ?

A. Yes, the DRC-1 generates key tone and  FSK supervisory messages for full control and reporting of the Simoco 1060 base station.

Q, What other base station sets are supported?

A. We have embedded tone control for Motorola and Simoco as standard plus an analogue interface mode (audio in and out) plus an open collector (active low) for PTT.

Q, Will the DRC-1 decode selective calling ?

A, The DRC-1 will encode and decode selective calling signals. Furthermore, the system administrator can assign alpha tags to call Idents to provide a more familiar interface.

Q, Can the DRC-1 hold calls in a queue ?

A, The DRC-1 has a ten deep incoming call stack. Using the LCD display the operator can see the last call input or scroll through the list using the up-down scroll keys. Outgoing calls may be taken from the stack or keyed in manually using the keypad facility.

Q, Can I record the conversations from the DRC-1?

A, Yes the DRC-1 has a dedicated port for recording all radio traffic both input and output to a master recorder. A second port can be configured to work with instant recall recorders where an incoming call can be recorded and then played back to the local operator any number of times.

Q, Can I use the DRC-1 headset to take telephone calls ?

A, Yes, the DRC-1 employs common headset working. The common port connects to a desk top telephone unit and calls may be initiated or picked up by a single stroke of the DRC-1 transfer key.

Q, Can I change the way the DRC-1 functions?

A, Yes, the DRC-1 can be programmed via the keypad and LCD display. The type of base station, sell call formats, alpha tags, soft key functions and all audio levels are programmable by the user.

Q, Can I use the DRC-1 with any base station ?

A, Yes, the DRC-1 will operate in a stand alone mode with Simoco and Motorola base stations. Base stations with an analogue interface are accommodated by placing our remote control card in or near the base station to be controlled. The remote control card is programmed to decode the AWC tone set and give full control via landline, or private connection..

Q, Must  the base station  be a duplex one?

A, No. Providing talk through facilities are not required, the DRC-1 can be programmed to implement delays in its data traffic to compensate for RX to TX switching. If talk through is required, then the base station must be duplex. The talk through can be achieved by using the local talk through facility programmed into a DRC-1, or by having a talk trough path built into the base station. The latter will also give talk through on line failure.

Q, Can I connect telephone calls to the radio?

A, Yes, the DRC1 has common headset working which permits the dispatcher to make and answer telephone calls. When a telephone call is made or received, pressing the "Telcon" key connects telephone and radio users together. In this mode the dispatcher is listening and must press his PTT key to talk to both parties.
