DS32 FAQs

Q, What is the minimum configuration of a DS32 ?

A, Two cards offering four ports which can be configured in any combination of 1 operator 3 channels to 3 operators 1 channel.

Q, What is the man machine interface when using a DS32 switch?

A, You can use a full desktop controller like the DRC-1 which becomes a DRC-32 when used with the switch, or if you are going to a GUI graphical interface, the DRC-U will provide a lower cost interface into the PC.

Q, How is the operator unit connected to the switch ?

A, We designed the system to use industry standard Cat 5 cable and crimp connectors. Newer buildings which have a structured wiring schemes may provide ready to use ports to interconnect operators and the switch.

Q, Can the switch have audio recording facilities?

A, Yes, each port has an audio output which may be connected to a multi channel recoding system. Plus, each desk-top unit has local record and playback facilities.

Q, How is the switch programmed?

A, The switch is programmed using a laptop computer or other terminal which will run a simple communication program. All of the switch parameters are stored in non volatile memory located on the switch back plane. All of the cards are hot swap capable and the correct parameters are downloaded to the exchanged card upon plug in.

Q. What base station radio sets will the DS-32 Support?

A. The DS-32 has embedded software for Motorola and Simoco tone controlled base stations. Plus, by using our TC-1 remote card, base stations equipped with audio in and out plus PTT line can be controlled by the DS-32 switch.

Q. What signalling is available within the DS-32?

A. The DS-32 has embedded software to encode and decode all selective calling standards. Plus, the DS-32 is equipped for FSK signalling.

Q. Can I use a fixed mobile radio set with the DS-32

A. yes, the DS-32 has a facility to drive any radio set with 600Ώ audio, PTT line and busy signal.

Q. I already use a DS-Micro but need more channels, is my investment in the Micro wasted?

A. No, the DS32 uses the same cards as the DS-Micro, and so you need only purchase the case and extra cards.

Q. Can the switch card work on a Tetra System

A. Yes, we have a fully operational (those facilities presently supported) interface to a mobile's PEI interface. The interface facilitates Group and Direct calls into and out of the switch. The software available also includes standalone operation in both TMO and DMO modes of operation and can be used as a none-service area gateway into the service area. see gateway pdf on DS32 page.
